Mochila bags, commonly found across Colombia, originate in La Guajira in Northeastern Colombia. Traditionally made by Wayuu women, mochilas serve as a primary source of income for many. Each bag is handwoven, taking up to 30 days to complete. Mochilas are either single hebra (using 1 thread) or double hebra (using 2 threads). Single hebra bags are more desirable because the tighter weave of the single hebra creates a sturdier bag with a longer lifespan. The colors and patterns of each mochila reflect its maker, their culture, and customs.
